Disciples Making Disciples in the Netherlands

April 10, 2026

Nilüfer felt “there should be more” to life. After buying a Bible and reading in the New Testament, she met Jesus—and immediately knew this was the “more” she’d been searching for.

As she was looking for a church to attend, God led her to one where GEM worker Margré Hays attends. This was the first time Nilufer had ever been in a church, but she was adamant about following Jesus for the rest of her life.

In talking with Nilüfer on a walk, Margré suggested doing discipleship with another young woman from church, Mieke.

Mieke was nervous about Nilufer asking difficult questions, but she was willing to try. She knew this would be a good opportunity for herself to grow in the Lord. While meeting with Nilüfer, Mieke gained more confidence, being able to give or find answers to the tough questions that came up.

Nilüfer enjoys talking about her faith and Jesus to others, like her colleagues. She’s become more involved in church by being a greeter, serving communion, and even doing street evangelism with Margré.

Mieke says, “I think God asks us to do this [discipleship], and He didn’t say just the people who can. He said everybody. So, also me. Also you…Everybody is able to, because He helps us.”

Through discipleship, God has given Nilüfer peace, a sweet new friendship, and community—a new life.
